How does Clinex Lotion work?

Clindamycin inhibits protein synthesis by reversibly binding to the 50S subunit of the ribosome, thereby blocking the transpeptidation or translocation reactions of susceptible organisms, resulting in stunted cell growth.

Quick Suggestions:

• Wash your skin with a mild cleanser and pat it dry before applying the lotion.
• Apply a thin layer onto clean, dry, unbroken skin affected by acne.
• It may cause minor burning, stinging, or irritation when applied. Inform your doctor if these symptoms persist.
• Avoid contact with eyes, nose, or mouth. Rinse thoroughly with water if accidental contact occurs.
• Consult your dermatologist if you do not notice any improvement after 4-6 weeks of treatment with CLINDAMYCIN.

Clinex Lotion is indicated for the treatment of:

• Acne vulgaris
• Erythrasma caused by Corynebacterium minutissimum
• Rosacea
• Periorificial dermatitis
• Folliculitis
• Stasis dermatitis
• Chronic lymphedema
• Familial pemphigus
• Dermal ulcers

Pharmacology

Clinex Lotion contains clindamycin, a lincosamide antibiotic. It works by inhibiting the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria to carry out vital functions. This inhibition occurs through the reversible binding to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes, blocking the transpeptidation or translocation reactions of susceptible organisms, thus preventing bacterial growth and infection spread.

Dosage & Administration:

Adult Dose:

• Topical/Cutaneous Acne: Apply a thin layer onto the affected area twice daily (bid).

Child Dose:

• Safety and efficacy are not established for children under 12 years old.
• For children over 12 years: Apply a thin layer onto the affected area twice daily (bid).

Administration:

• Wash the face or affected area gently with warm water or soap.
• Dry the skin completely (wait about 30 minutes).
• Apply a thin film of Clindamycin lotion to the entire affected area twice daily.
• Do not wash the applied area for at least 3 hours after application.
• A noticeable improvement is typically seen after about 6 weeks; however, 8 to 12 weeks of treatment may be required for maximum benefit.
• Avoid contact with eyes, lips, and nose while applying the lotion.

Interaction

• Drug-Drug Interaction: Clindamycin may interact with other antibiotics (like erythromycin), anticoagulants (such as warfarin), and neuromuscular blocking agents (such as atracurium and vecuronium).
• Drug-Food Interaction: No known interactions with food have been established.
• Drug-Disease Interaction: Before using Clindamycin, inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, colitis, asthma, hay fever, eczema, or dermatitis.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to clindamycin.

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy: Systemic administration of clindamycin during the second and third trimesters has not been associated with an increased frequency of congenital abnormalities. There are no adequate studies in pregnant women during the first trimester. Clindamycin should be used during the first trimester only if clearly needed.
• Lactation: It is not known whether clindamycin is excreted in human milk following topical therapy. Clindamycin has the potential to cause adverse effects on the gastrointestinal flora of breastfed infants. Monitor infants for possible adverse effects, such as diarrhea, candidiasis (thrush, diaper rash), or rarely, blood in the stool indicating possible antibiotic-associated colitis. The developmental and health benefits of breastfeeding should be considered along with the mother's clinical need for clindamycin and any potential adverse effects on the breastfed child.

Precautions & Warnings

• Do not use Clindamycin if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Inform your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease, gastrointestinal conditions (such as colitis, which is inflammation of the colon), or any allergic conditions (including asthma, hay fever, eczema, or dermatitis).
• While using Clindamycin, avoid products that contain large amounts of alcohol (such as astringents, shaving creams, or after-shave lotions), hair removal products, and items containing lime or spices.
• Do not apply Clindamycin to mucous membranes, lesions, or large areas of skin.
• Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using Clindamycin.
• Clindamycin is not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

Storage:

• Store the tube below 25°C, away from light and moisture.
• Keep out of reach of children.
